Lorenzo Davitti

Printmaker

Lorenzo Davitti was born in Florence and graduated in Psychology at the University of Florence, Italy, and earned a MA degree in Illustration and Visual Media at the London College of Communication, London, UK. He has worked as a freelance illustrator, animator and colourist before specialising in printmaking. He lives in London, where he also works as a Printmaking technician at UCA. Lorenzo has great knowledge in lino, etching, mono, wood cut and book binding.

Lorenzo’s process is one where accidental gestures are counterbalanced by controlled application of the technique. Decisions regarding marks, lines and colours are taken intuitively and rapidly; in this experimental method, planning is as valid as improvisation or accident.

Selected exhibitions include the National Original Printmaking Exhibition, in the Bankside Gallery; the Awagami Printmaking Exhibition, Japan; Woolwich Contemporary Print Festival; the London Design Festival, in London; the College Book Art Association Meeting, USA; the Fourth International Printmaking Biennal, Serbia.

Thomas Cert

Printmaker

Thomas studied Illustration at Middlesex University where his love of printmaking was born. This is where he was first introduced to stone lithography, a process which fascinated and at the same disconcerted him. With limited expertise at the University, he sought technical expertise of this medium.

After completing the rigorous training of the professional printers program at the Tamarind Institute, Thomas was selected to work under the Master Printer as an Apprentice Printer. Thomas received his Tamarind Master Printer certificate in 2017.

He is currently working at Kingston University as a general printmaking technician and previously worked at The Royal College of Arts teaching Lithography.

Emily Coulson

Printmaker

Emily studied Norwich University of the Arts. Her love for printmaking was realised within the final two years of her degree, finding solace in the print studio as a place for both methodical experimentation and unpredictable results.

Fascinated by the dramatic effect positive and negative space can hold within an image, Emily has forged a close relationship with linocut as the medium for her illustrations. Her work focuses on creating imagery that speaks to both adults and children alike; combining whimsical characters with the characteristic patterns, textures and movements a gouge can uncover through a relief block.
